Ungef\u00e4hr 400 Meter von der K\u00fcste von Stresa entfernt gelegen und mit einer bequemen Anlegestelle an der Uferpromenade ausgestattet, ist sie zusammen mit der Isola Madre und der Isola Pescatori Teil der zauberhaften Borrom\u00e4ischen Inseln.<\/p>

Bis 1632 war die \u201eIsola inferiore<\/strong>\u201d oder auch \u201eIsola di sotto<\/strong>\u201d (deutsch: untere Insel) eine felsige Klippe mit einem winzigen Fischerdorf. Vitaliano I Borromeo begann zuerst damit, das Projekt eines unglaublichen Palastes auf der Isola Bella zu entwerfen, welches daraufhin ab 1632 realisiert wurde. Die Arbeiten mussten in der Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts unterbrochen werden, als eine Pest-Epidemie das Herzogtum Mailand heimsuchte.<\/p>

Die Bauarbeiten kamen wieder in Gang, nachdem die Insel an die Kinder \u00fcbertragen wurde. Die Insel wurde so umgestaltet, dass sie wie ein Fantasie-Schiff aussah, bei dem der Palast den Bug und die G\u00e4rten das Heck bildeten. Der Entwurf sah auch einen gro\u00dfen Hafen im westlichen Teil vor dem Palast vor, der allerdings nie gebaut wurde. Unter den ber\u00fchmtesten Besuchern der Insel befinden sich Napoleon und seiner Frau Josephine, die Prinzessin von Wales Caroline Amalia von Braunschweig und Mussolini.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Der italienische Garten<\/strong>, der auf zehn in der Form eines Pyramidenstumpfes errichteten Terrassen angelegt wurde, beherbergt Statuen, Brunnen, seltene B\u00e4ume, exotische Pflanzen und zart duftende Blumen wie Magnolien und Kamelien.
